The Irish Setter Club of Central California (ISCCC) was established December 21, 1971 as an AKC-licensed club under the parentage of the Irish Setter Club of America.

The objects of the club are:

a)  to encourage and promote the breeding of pure-bred Irish Setters and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.

b)  to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Irish Setters shall be judged.

c)  to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition by conducting licensed specialty shows,  obedience trials, field trials and hunt tests under the rules and procedures of the American Kennel Club.

Our Mission

The Irish Setter Club of Central California is Devoted to the Dual Dog!

Definition: The epitome of combining the characteristics of an AKC field trial champion with the looks and structure of an AKC show champion, all in one Irish Setter.  The achievement of both championships is the definition of a Dual Champion.

Club Profile

The ISCCC was founded primarily as a field trial club (the AKC Hunt Test program did not exist at the time the ISCCC was launched.)  Instrumental in its founding were Jake and Sally Huizenga of Salinas, who owned and operated Oxton Kennels there.  Jake had initially been a German Shorthaired Pointer field trainer, but had turned his attentions to the Irish Setter breed after World War II.  At the time of the ISCCC's founding, Jake was the number one Irish Setter field trial trainer on the West Coast, if not the entire USA.  As such, his influence with the Irish Setter Club of America was vast and when the Huizengas set out to found a local AKC-licensed Irish Setter Club, the ISCA allowed him certain club particulars that no other local Irish Setter club had been permitted, chief among those being that the ISCCC would have club officers to administer events and finances, but would have no board of directors.
